Gresford Architects have housed a new kitchen, seating area and bedroom in a modern extension to the rear of this semi-detached Victorian home in Tulse Hill, south east London.

The extension has brought together kitchen and living areas to create a semi-open-plan, split-level space. The newly revived living room now overlooks the kitchen from above, and provides a view of the garden through the extension. Alongside the kitchen sits a new dining area, featuring integrated seating with a picture window that enhances the link with the garden. The newly created third bedroom also makes use of the southerly aspect, with a window seat and direct access onto the garden.

Glazed sliding doors to the rear, a new central rooflight, and clerestory glazing to the living area allow maximum natural daylight to flood into the extension.
