Sandringham Road is a 2 bedroom maisonette set on the lower levels of a four storey Victorian terraced house. Gresford Architects were appointed to create a contemporary rear extension to house a new kitchen, allowing the existing kitchen to be converted into a third bedroom.

The practical and economical extension sits in the return between the existing kitchen (which forms part of the original house) and garden wall, extending out into the garden to the extent of an existing sunken terrace. The new kitchen is accessed from the dining room, where an opening in the rear wall has been formed in the location of the existing window. To the rear of the extension, a glazed wall and sliding doors allow light into the plan and a verandah has been formed by the overhanging zinc clad roof.
